CANALOU, Mo. -- A Canalou man was killed in a Thursday afternoon accident, the Standard Democrat reported. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 12:16 p.m., one mile east of Canalou. Larry J. Layne, 68, was eastbound on Route H when his vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a northbound cotton module vehicle driven by James L. Holt, 61, of Lilbourn, Mo., traveling on Route E. Layne was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m. by New Madrid County Corner Jimmy McSpadden. This is the 52nd fatality in Troop E this year.
