JACKSON -- Fifteen minutes before closing time Friday, campaign finance disclosure reports due Tuesday had not been filed with the Cape Girardeau county clerk's office by two candidates.
Failing to file reports due seven days before the election on time were Joe Gambill, a Republican candidate for 2nd District associate commissioner, and Laura Beggs, a Republican candidate for county clerk.
State campaign finance disclosure laws require candidates for public office to file reports 40 days before an election, seven days before, and 30 days after.
Beggs was only late on her seven-day report. Gambill also had not yet filed his 40-day report due Sept. 29.
Gambill is running against Democrat Max Stovall for the commission seat now held by E.C. Younghouse, who is retiring.
A spokesman for Gambill's campaign said Friday night that his report had been sent to the clerk's office. It showed total campaign receipts of $6,960 for the election, with a balance of $1,307 in his account.
Stovall's report showed he had raised $5,975 and spent $5,353 so far in the campaign.
Both Stovall and Gambill have primary election expenses included in their report totals.
County Clerk Rodney Miller's report showed that he had spent $9,368 and had $2,600 on hand in his account. During this reporting period, Miller raised $4,370, which includes a $2,000 personal loan to the campaign.
