CAIRO, Ill. -- Geneva Whitfield has resigned from the Alexander County Housing Authority Tenant Council of McBride Court in Cairo, Ill.
The tenant council, elected by residents of the housing project, is designed to help make the project a "better place to live," said Cairo Mayor James Wilson.
In her letter of resignation, Whitfield wrote: "I must resign as a member of this council, due to the fact that my membership has become only a puppet we have no authority."
An election to select members for the council will be held in the near future said Wilson.
