Cairo man dies in Cape Girardeau crash

One man died after a car crash Sunday in Cape Girardeau.

Carl Thomas, 77, of Cairo, Illinois, was killed when the car he was in became involved in an accident at the intersection of Highway 74 and Kingshighway shortly after 2 p.m., said Sgt. Adam Glueck of the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

The woman driving the car Thomas was in also was taken to a local hospital, but police did not comment on her condition.

The cause of the accident remains unknown.

"[That's] under investigation," Glueck said. "We believe one of the vehicles may have run a red light, but that's still under investigation."
