Cairo boil-water order lifted

CAIRO, Ill. -- A boil-water order in effect for Cairo residents was lifted Wednesday after a series of tests determined that the water met federal drinking water standards.

According to Illinois American Water, samples were taken from sites in the affected area while the boil-water order was in place and tests have confirmed that the water meets all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act standards and regulations.

The boil-water order had been in effect since Monday and it is no longer necessary for customers in the Cairo district to boil their water before drinking or cooking.
