Three Cape Girardeau students and one from Altenburg are among 14 students in the 8th Congressional District receiving Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarships, U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson has announced.
Recipients include Mala Ahuja, LaRoy R. Roper III and Gwenda Bennett of Cape Girardeau, and Marty J. Kassulke of Altenburg.
Each student will receive a $1,500 scholarship from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education when they enroll in a college or university this fall. The award is based on an individual's academic ability and outstanding credentials.
"I am so proud of each of these students," said Emerson. "America's future depends on a commitment to education. By applying themselves both inside and outside the classroom, these folks are doing what they can to see that we remain globally competitive. I wish them all the best in their future academic and career endeavors."
