* At 7 p.m. July 10, "Pet Care" will be presented by Humane Society of Southeast Missouri staff. Free program, door prize drawing planned. Pet items may be brought to the library and placed in the Humane Society doghouse.

* The ongoing summer reading program (until July 29), "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales," includes readers from birth to age 12. Upon completion of reading goals, participants will receive a free paperback book and earn a chance to enter the grand prize bicycle drawing made possible by the VFW Post 3838 and UCT Council 534 of Cape Girardeau.

* At 10 a.m. Mondays, toddlers from 18 to 35 months can engage in stories, activities and fun with their parent or caregiver. July 3, birds; July 10, jungle animals; July 17, forest animals; July 24, storyteller's favorites. Storytime at 10 a.m. Tuesdays or Wednesday for ages 3 to 5 includes a take-home activity. July 5, birds, July 11 or 12, jungle animals; July 18 or 19, forest animals; July 25 or 26, storyteller's favorites.

* At 11 a.m. Wednesdays, July 12, 19, 26 the "Lunch Bag Bunch" 6- to 8-year-old group bring sack lunches for a picnic in the library while listening to a story.

* At 10 a.m. July 13 and 27, the "Hands On" 3- to 5-year-old group will enjoy books, crafts, activities (registration required).

* At 7 p.m. July 18, the library's foreign film,"Familia," will be shown in the Hirsch Community room. The film is free, approximately 100 minutes in length and French with English subtitles. It is suggested for 17 and older. Call 334-5279 for more information.

* At 10 a.m. July 20, "Early Explorers," ages 18 to 35 months, will enjoy sticky pictures (registration required).

* At 2 p.m. July 22, "March of the Penguins" will be shown in the Hirsch Community Room at the library. Attendees will be treated to popcorn and popsicles.

* At 2 p.m. July 20, "Kids Can 1," ages 6 to 8, will focus on plant pets Registration required.

* At 2 p.m. July 13, the "Kids Can 2" 9- to 12-year-old group will meet. Registration required.

* At 2 p.m. July 11, the "Tuesday 4 Teens" 13- to 17-year-old group will meet. Registration required.
