A Cape Girardeau business that supplies parts to motorcycle shops around the world and an organization set up to assist businesses were given the U.S. Department of Commerce's Export Achievement Certificate Friday morning.
Motorcycle Stuff and the Small Business Development Center at Southeast Missouri State University were presented the certificates at First Friday Coffee, a Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce event.
Motorcycle Stuff is a 30-year-old company and subsidiary of Global Motorsport Group of California. Global Motorsport is owner of Custom Chrome and Chrome Specialties, which are leading distributors of aftermarket Harley-Davidson parts and accessories. This firm has made recent inroads into export markets, including Bolivia.
The Small Business Development Center was honored for its 17 years of providing assistance to small businesses in the Cape Girardeau area. As a resource and support center, it offers management and technical assistance for small business in service, retail, construction and manufacturing.
Tim Dodd of Motorcycle Stuff and Buzz Sutherland of the SBDC accepted the certificates that were presented by the U.S. Commercial Service, Missouri District Export Council and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The U.S. Commercial Service is a Commerce Department Agency that helps small and midsize U.S. businesses sell their products and services globally. The St. Louis U.S. Export Assistance Center is part of the agency's worldwide network.
