The Tractor Supply Company of Cape Girardeau has donated an all-terrain vehicle seeder to the Southeast Missouri State University demonstration farm.
Dr. William Ellis, a faculty member who supervises the farm, said the donation will permit continued improvement of the forage program at the farm.
The goal of the school's agriculture department is to demonstrate high-tech beef cow-calf production and intensive grazing forage management.
Ellis said the average beef producer in the state sells about 160 pounds of beef per acre. The demonstration farm wants to show that beef producers can raise the pounds of beef sold per acre to more than 300 pounds. The seeder will assist in the process, Ellis said.
