Burn order in effect for Cape County

A restricted burn order in is effect in Cape Girardeau County until further notice.

According to a release from county spokesman Eric McGowen, a recent combination of high temperatures, lack of rain and the possibility of increasing winds means outdoor burning should be postponed. No field or wood lot fires should be set and residents are urged to take care when discarding smoking materials along roads because grass could easily ignite. Campers and hunters should also use caution.

The order is in effect until further notice.
