Scott County Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger will serve a third term after defeating Will Yates in Tuesday's election.
Burger, a Democrat, took 56 percent of the vote, with 4,312 to Republican Yates' 3,269.
Leading up to the election, Burger said he was confident he could retain his position because of headway the county has made on infrastructure, such as expanding the water district into more rural areas, construction of bridges and other improvements to roads and drainage systems. A plan to improve facilities using revenue in the county's general fund and security upgrades at the jail also have taken place in Scott County during Burger's terms.
Burger was elected presiding commissioner in 2006 after serving as the commission's representative for the second district since 2001.
Yates has attempted to join the commission before, but lost to current second district Commissioner Donnie Kiefer in the 2012 general election.
Scott County overall stuck with its tradition of favoring Democrats to serve in county-level offices, with all other seats uncontested this year or decided in the August primary.
