Jeffrey Dale Henry, 27, of Burfordville remained in critical condition Thursday in the critical care unit at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, following an accident Tuesday.

Henry was injured when the pickup truck he was driving struck a utility pole Tuesday night at the intersection of Highway 34 and West Lane in Jackson, authorities said.

Due to an apparent error in communications, Henry's condition had been initially listed as serious. But a hospital spokesman said Thursday that Henry has remained in critical condition with a head injury since he arrived at St. Francis around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Jackson Police are continuing to investigate the accident. But police said the cause of the accident cannot be determined until they are able to question Henry.

Authorities said Henry was not wearing his seat belt when the accident occurred at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The accident occurred at the same intersection where two 21-year-old Florissant women, Kimberly Lynn Frost and Sherree Donnell, were killed on Jan. 9 when their car was struck by a gasoline tanker as they attempted to cross Highway 34. That accident occurred at 8:55 a.m.
