The Southeast Missouri Building and Construction Trades Council has pledged $25,000 to the Southeast Missouri University Foundation as part of the university's capital campaign.

Named "A New Vision of Excellence," the five-year campaign will culminate with a victory celebration and dinner Sept. 17.

The campaign was undertaken to raise the capital needed for programs that will enable the university to fulfill its long-standing commitment to excellence excellence in its graduates and in services provided to the Southeast region and throughout the state of Missouri, university officials said.

"The trade council's generous gift will provide funding for the proposed Marvin Rosengarten Athletic Complex and other designated areas," said Don Ford, director of university development.

"Throughout the campaign, labor leadership has demonstrated its support," said Ford, "and we at the university are pleased to have them working with us toward our goals.

"In particular," he said, "three individuals who worked very hard over the past several months to put together this package, deserve special recognition. They are David Zimmerman, president, and Forrest Slinkard, secretary-treasurer of the Southeast Missouri Building and Construction Trades Council, and Jim Lane, business representative of Local 562 of the Pipefitters and Plumbers."
