Two brothers, ages 3 and 4, love to hear their mom read them bedtime stories, so it's natural that books, especially ones like "Goodnight Moon" and "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie," are at the top of their list for Santa. They also love monster trucks and child-friendly tools, but some stuffed animals to hug while being read to would make their Christmas. They would also enjoy movies such as "Happy Feet" and Veggie Tales videos. Mom asks for help getting them some character pajamas such as Spider-Man in size 3T and the Hulk in 4T. They could also use socks and underwear.

Help make Christmas a special memory by bringing any new toys to one of the Toybox locations, including the Southeast Missourian at 301 Broadway. Or you can make monetary donations to Toybox, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702. Here are some most requested items by the children: learning toys, educational games, Barbies, Transformers, "High School Musical" video, board games, children's books, trucks, outdoor games and Hannah Montana, Dora the Explorer and Spider-Man items.

Ms. J is 69 years old and takes care of her ailing husband in their home. She lives on a fixed income and is not eligible for Medicaid. She and her husband's meager income barely covers their bills, and there is nothing left over for her to get some new glasses. She could really use a new winter coat, size 16, and some slip-on winter shoes in size 8 1/2. A gift card to Walmart would help her purchase some needed undergarments. A gift card to John's Pharmacy would also help them get medicines for her high blood pressure, arthritis and cholesterol.

You can help Ms. J and other needy elderly people in the area by buying these needed items, including grocery gift cards and personal grooming and cleaning supplies and delivering them to the Southeast Missourian, 301 Broadway. Monetary donations can also be sent to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, MO 63702. All elderly served are living independently on limited incomes with few, if any, family members. They would greatly appreciate your sharing spirit.
