When people work together, good things frequently happen.

A joint effort has allowed a new flag pole and brand new American flag to grace the edge of one of the girls' softball fields in the Jackson City Park. The Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8252, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary # 10495 and some volunteer labor, have made it possible.

The Lutheran Brotherhood donated the poll, while the auxiliary provided the flag. David Bierer, Jackson superintendent of parks, installed the poll. A plaque will be added to the base of the poll at a later date.

"For five years the Lutheran Brotherhood has taken care of the rock garden and has provided trees, shrubs and a drinking fountain for the park," said Grace Willie, Americanism chairman of the Ladies Auxiliary.

The Rev. Albert Nyland noted that the brotherhood used money provided by a grant through the "Friends in Deed" program.

"We were happy to do it," he said of the brotherhood's contribution.
