Bodies found in woods near lake in Kansas City area

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Authorities are investigating after two bodies were found in the woods near a Kansas City area lake.

KMBC-TV reported police aren't identifying the people found Wednesday afternoon at Longview Lake or saying how they died. But relatives and friends of 29-year-old Michael Brewer and 25-year-old Keith Wasmer gathered at the lake because they suspect the bodies are those of the missing men.

The friends disappeared after going to a marina at the lake Aug. 6 to meet someone. Wasmer's mother, Shannon Wasmer, said her "mom-stinct is not doing so well right now." Her son has four children, the youngest just 1-month-old.

Michael Brewer's father, Jeff Brewer, said there will at least be "some sort of closure" if the bodies are identified as those of the two friends.

ST. LOUIS -- Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley has sued the St. Louis Housing Authority over conditions at a low-income housing complex, alleging problems that include rodent and pest infestations, mold and structural failures.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday, cites concerns at the Clinton-Peabody Housing Complex. It also names the company that manages the complex, McCormack Baron Management.

The lawsuit alleges the problems have long been evident but have not been resolved.

Hawley, a Republican, is running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill, who also has pushed for improvements at Clinton-Peabody. She toured the complex in April, when residents told her about problems, including severe mice infestations, they said were addressed only after protests and media coverage.

Man charged in officer shooting contests finding

BALLWIN, Mo. -- A St. Louis man is objecting to a finding he is mentally unfit to stand trial in a shooting that paralyzed a suburban St. Louis police officer from the neck down.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported 33-year-old Antonio Taylor made the objection in a motion filed Tuesday through his public defender. A hearing is set for Friday on the Department of Mental Health's finding that he's not competent.

Taylor is accused of shooting Ballwin police officer Mike Flamion in the neck during a July 2016 traffic stop.
