Church to hold contra dance tonight

Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will hold a contra dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. today at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. in Cape Girar-deau. Live music will be provided by Dr. Ben Goodier on fiddle, Denise Dowling on hammer dulcimer, and Steve Juhlin on the bodhran (Irish flat drum). All moves are taught and the dances walked through. The patterns are very easy to learn; it's more like walking to music. Everyone is welcome. No partner, costume, or experience is necessary. An evening consists of seven to 10 dances, each with a different combination of a few simple moves. There also will be a cake/pie walk during the dance. Discounted price for dancers up to age 16. A donation is requested. For more information, call John or Kathy Coffman at 334-4706, Judy Bradley at 334-5289, or John Boyd at 335-7315.
