Repeat DWI offender to be tried on new charges

An Illinois man convicted of reckless homicide in 1987 will be tried by an Alexander County, Ill., jury for new driving while intoxicated charges starting April 25. David D. Hull, 45, of Thebes, Ill., is charged with two felony counts of driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and two felony counts of aggravated driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. If convicted on all counts, Hull could spend up to 16 years in prison. The charges reflect two previous convictions, a 1987 DWI conviction and a 2000 DWI conviction in Missouri, said Alexander County State's Attorney Jeffrey Farris. Hull spent 2 1/2 years in prison after he was sentenced in 1987 to five years in prison for reckless homicide, driving while under the influence of alcohol and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Hull will appear before Circuit Judge William J. Thurston April 25.

Man charged with infant's death to be arraigned

A 20-year-old Perryville, Mo., man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 9-month-old son appeared in Butler County circuit court Tuesday for arraignment. Matthew R. Lindsey, had his case venued to Butler County last month. Lindsey admitted to authorities that in an effort to quiet Robert M. Lindsey's cries Dec. 7 he held the child's face against his chest for about five minutes until he stopped moving, according to the probable-cause statement. The baby was pronounced dead that day at Perry County Memorial Hospital, according to the affidavit. If convicted of the charge, Lindsey faces a life sentence in prison without eligibility for parole. He is in the Perry County Jail on a $500,000 bond as of Friday. Lindsey has a case review scheduled for April 17 before Circuit Judge Mark Richards.

Sikeston man charged with murder out on bond

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man accused of murdering a Morehouse, Mo., man is out on a $250,000 bond as of April 6 and will appear in Scott County court May 23. Lee R. King II, 33, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Richard Sterling, 37. King is accused of shooting Sterling in a Sikeston sports bar parking lot last month.

Phone service to SEMO campus restored

Telephone service to the Southeast Missouri State University campus was restored by midmorning Friday, ending a disruption of service caused by a water-line break Wednesday. Southeast's telephone switch room in Serena Hall is once again operational, said Rodger Chisman, director of telecommunication services at Southeast. Electronic equipment in three of four cabinets housing the university's telephone switching equipment was destroyed after a water-line break in Serena Hall flooded the telecommunications switch room. The university had to ship in new equipment to restore telephone service, school officials said.
