Alleged robber gets more felony charges
Three additional felony charges have been filed against a Cape Girardeau man accused of robbing Payless shoe store Feb. 3, Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said Friday. Gregory D. Williams, 33, 321 Albert St., was charged with the Dec. 24 robbery of Sally Beauty Supply, the Jan. 6 robbery of the Dollar General Store and an attempted escape from local police on Feb. 9. The new charges allege Williams "displayed what appeared to be a deadly weapon" in the robberies of Sally's and Dollar General and that he leapt from a moving patrol car in an attempt to escape from police custody Feb. 9.
Concerts to showcase percussion, voice
The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music will present two public performances this week. The university's Percussion Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Academic Hall Auditorium with works ranging from traditional drum music to Baroque-era pieces to Latin-inspired compositions for a large ensemble. The university will also present a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by music professor Leslie Jones. The concert will be at Old St. Vincent's Church in downtown Cape Girardeau and feature contemporary classical music dating from the early 20th to the early 21st century. Museum spotlights early mass-produced images
The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum is showcasing some of the earliest forms of mass-produced images in its "Woodcuts, Engravings and Lithographs: Selections from the Permanent Collection" exhibit. The exhibit will be on display through March 25, and features prints made by wood engravings taken from drawings by famous artists and illustrators like Winslow Homer, Honore Daumier, Paul Resika and Pablo Picasso. Pieces in the collection focus on social commentary and architecture in some of the earliest of such images to be disseminated on a wide scale. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. For more information on the exhibit, call 651-2260.
St. Mary kindergarten registration meeting
St. Mary Cathedral School in Cape Girardeau will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the school cafeteria for parents interested in registering their children for the 2007 to 2008 kindergarten class. Information will be provided on the coming school year and requirements for kindergarten. Registration packets will be handed out.
