Boys die after car rolls into Putnam County pond

UNIONVILLE, Mo. -- Two young boys died early Monday after the car they were in rolled down a hill into a pond, authorities said. Bret Phillips, 5, and Colin Phillips, 3, both of Novinger, were in a car in a driveway on private property about 17 miles southeast of Unionville in Putnam County. The driver of the Oldsmobile Cutlass failed to put the car in park before getting out of the vehicle, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. The identity of the driver was not released and no summons was issued.

The Highway Patrol and Putnam County Sheriff's Office would offer no further details.
