CAPE GIRARDEAU -- On Thursday, about 50 Boy Scouting volunteers will visit Cape Girardeau businesses soliciting contribution's for Friends of Scouting.
Paul Potthoff, Boy Scouts Shawnee district finance chairman, and John Mehner, Cape Girardeau community captain, are organizing the blitz day.
"A large portion of the income of the Boy Scouts' activities comes from Friends of Scouting," Potthoff said.

Pottoff said the blitz will last just one day. "We're trying to raise $22,000," he said.
Friends of Scouting makes up 21 percent of the district's budget, the largest portion except for popcorn sales, which raises 31 percent of the budget, he said.
