DESLOGE, Mo. -- After an elementary school-aged Missouri boy allegedly threatened to shoot and stab people at school, his parents are facing felony charges.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri, reported the child allegedly made the threats at a school in Desloge. His mother is charged with abuse or neglect of a child. His father is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Both are jailed on $15,000 bond. The Associated Press is not naming the parents to protect the child's identity.

The child had previously been removed from a regular classroom because of threats of violence. A probable-cause statement said the child has displayed signs of mental illness but neither parent wanted to seek treatment.
