A 7-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the road was injured Tuesday morning when he was struck by a vehicle.

Shane Michael Emmonds of 22 S. Hanover was riding his bicycle to Franklin School when he was struck by a truck driven by Stanley Wicks of 121 N. West End Boulevard.

Cape Girardeau police said that Emmonds was northbound on West End Boulevard when he cut short a turn onto Themis Street and drove into the path of Wicks' truck.

Wicks had been sitting at a stop sign in the eastbound lane of Themis. As he was making a right turn onto West End Boulevard, Emmonds crossed into his lane, police said.

Emmonds suffered abrasions and complained of pain in the abdomen. He was taken by ambulance to Southeast Missouri Hospital.

No charges were filed.
