Are you looking for an experiment that will keep children busy while on summer break? If so, science reporter Jason Lindsey has the perfect experiment that will keep them busy and teach them some cool science.

Ingredients

2 empty bottles

Food coloring

1 piece of cardboard

Hot and cold water

Instructions

Step 1: Fill one of the empty bottles with cold water and the other empty bottle with hot water. Add food coloring to the hot water.

Step 2: Place the piece of cardboard on top of the bottle of cold water.

Step 3: Turn the bottle of cold water upside down and place the bottle on top of the bottle of hot water.

Step 4: Line up the bottles and remove the piece of cardboard.

Explanation

The hot water molecules are moving more quickly than the cold water molecules mixing the two liquids together. This circulation of currents from one area to another is called convection.
