MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- The Bollinger County Fair has begun and will have a new attraction this year.
Carnival rides opened for armband night Thursday evening. Today, vendors will begin setting up and some will be open. A working cow dog show starts at 6 p.m.
Strongman Steve Schmidt, 54, of Leslie, Mo., will perform at 6:30 p.m. today at center stage. He is a fifth-generation farmer who trains at home. When competing, he represents Clark's Gym in Columbia, Mo.
He holds a Guinness World Record for most lifts of 220 pounds, teeth only, in one minute; is a three-time USAWA national champion; is an eight-time winner of the Zercher Strength Classic; and is a 14-time winner of the USAWA Heavylift Nationals.
The footrace and parade will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, then the fair opens at 10 a.m. with an assortment of vendors, food and activities for the family. Saturday night will feature a street dance, and the fair will wrap up Sunday with a community church service at 10 a.m. and lunch afterward, followed by an afternoon of song.
