GLENALLEN, Mo. -- A newlywed Bollinger County man was killed Thursday afternoon in a house fire.

Jimmy Holt, 43, of Route DD near Glenallen, was pronounced dead at 3 p.m., Bollinger County Coroner Charles Hutchings said.

Emergency personnel responded to the fire at Holt's home shortly before 2 p.m., Hutchings said.

County deputy Richie McCall forced open the door of the home, found Holt lying at the entrance and pulled him out, said Sheriff Terry Wiseman.

"He almost made it out," Hutchings said, adding that Holt was dead on arrival.

Holt's death was likely caused by smoke inhalation, but an autopsy was scheduled for today in Farmington, Mo., Hutchings said.

While Wiseman said he did not believe foul play was involved, the cause of the blaze was under investigation by the fire marshal.

The one-story house was a complete loss. Some vehicles near the home were also severely damaged, he said.

Holt, who was married Aug. 31, is survived by his wife and teenage son, according to Hutchings.
