SCOTT CITY -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has asked that Scott City residents boil their drinking and cooking water until Monday, while tests are being run on the city's water supply.
Mayor Larry Forhan said a contractor struck a water main on Main Street on Tuesday causing a leak, which was soon repaired.
The line was flushed and considered to be safe by the public works director by Wednesday afternoon.
"It is my understanding that someone called the Department of Natural Resources and advised them we had a break in one of our lines, and now they have issued a boil water order until Monday," Forhan said. "I'm sure it's just a safety precaution DNR wants us to take until they are sure the water lines are clean."
The order is in effect for all residents of Scott City who are hooked in to the city water supply. Water for consumption should be boiled several minutes to kill any bacteria that may be present.
