An early-morning power outage Monday resulted in a boil-water order being issued for Tanglewood Subdivision north of Cape Girardeau.

Tom Taggart, water system manager, said the power to a pumping station on Cape Rock Drive went out. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources requires systems to issue boil-water orders when water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch.

The order, issued at 9 a.m. Monday, was for 24 hours. Homeowners in the subdivision had to bring water to a rolling boil for three minutes before drinking it or using it in cooking.

Taggart said the water department issued notice over radio stations to alert homeowners to the potential danger. If tests reveal the water isn't safe before the order expires, it will be reissued.
