LOS ANGELES -- Police were trying to determine whether a search failed to spot the body of a boy in the pool of a mansion two days after the child was reported missing from a party at the home.

Police hoped an autopsy would show whether or not 7-year-old Paolo Ayala drowned.

Deputy Police Chief David Kalish initially said the area was repeatedly searched after the boy disappeared Sunday afternoon. A housekeeper reported finding the boy in the pool Tuesday morning.

The expansive pool has a light-colored bottom and is 9 feet deep at one end.
