The Board of Education approved renovations for Franklin Elementary School and the sale of May Greene Elementary School Monday night.
The board gave preliminary approval for the sale of May Greene to First Assembly of God Church. Superintendent Dan Steska and board President Ferrell Ervin declined to release the sale amount until after the contract is finalized.
"We've got to go through the building and decide what we'll keep and what will go," Steska said. "In concept, we've agreed to a cash price plus use of the building."
The school board approved a preliminary budget of $578,135 to renovate Franklin Elementary School. The budget, presented by architect Charlie Herbst of Holshouser and Herbst, includes costs for construction of a gymnasium and covered walkway. Also included is conversion of the existing gymnasium into a cafeteria and library.
Other existing areas also would be converted into a nurse's office, teachers' lounge, computer lab and other administrative offices.
Herbst projected the cost of the renovations to be $578,138, including site work, renovations and construction. The district set aside $566,000 for the project in the master plan budget.
"This was about as close to the master plan figure that we can come up with," said Herbst. "We picked out the most priority items."
