Gov. Matt Blunt and the top Republican leaders in the Missouri Legislature will be in Cape Girardeau Monday as part of a statewide tour seeking to preserve the GOP's dominant position in state politics.
Blunt, a Republican, took office in January 2005, cementing Republican control of state government. The GOP held both chambers of the Missouri Legislature prior to the 2004 election and solidified their hold in voting that year.
Blunt, Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons, R-Kirkwood, and House Speaker Rod Jetton, R-Marble Hill, have a "Working Together, Working for You" rally at 1:15 p.m. Monday at the Cape Girardeau County Republican Headquarters, 500 Kingshighway.
Republicans currently hold most Southeast Missouri legislative seats and the GOP candidates have a commanding edge in funding for candidates in most area seats.
