Blunt calls special session to start Aug. 20

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Gov. Matt Blunt is calling a special legislative session starting Aug. 20 to address economic development and a measure to speed up bridge repairs.

The special session is a second chance on the economic development bill.

Last month, Blunt vetoed a package of tax breaks that he said could have cost about $200 million, contained errors and would have directed money to some questionable causes.

The Republican governor says he reached a consensus with legislative leaders on a revised tax incentive package that would cost $51 million in its first year.

Separate legislation would fix a glitch that has delayed the Department of Transportation's plan to award a single bid to repair and maintain about 800 bridges.
