Bluff man indicted on drug charges

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Poplar Bluff man appeared in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau this week after he was indicted on a drug possession charge.

Steven Phillip Smith, 44, made his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Lewis Blanton, according to Abbie Crites-Leoni, special assistant U.S. attorney.

A formal arraignment on the charge and a bond hearing will be held before Blanton on Monday, said Crites-Leoni, who has filed a motion asking that Smith be held.
