Traffic will be closed Monday at the Bloomfield Road bridge that crosses Cape LaCroix Creek east of South Kingshighway.
"The bridge will be closed through mid-September," said Ken Eftink, Cape Girardeau planning coordinator. "A new, wider bridge will be constructed at the site."
Eftink said traffic would be detoured along Christine east of the bridge and Commercial west of the bridge.
"Motorists should avoid this area to prevent traffic congestion and delay," added Eftink.
The existing bridge, which is about 20 feet wide, will be replaced as part of the LaCroix Creek/Walker Branch flood control project.
"The new bridge will be 36 feet wide, with an additional five-foot pedestrian crossing on the upstream side," said Eftink.
