The American Red Cross said that donations are especially needed in the summer months because donations go down as the temperature rises.

Even though the need for blood for area hospital patients remains high, most blood drives do not collect as many donations because of employee vacations. In addition, some locations such as high schools do not hold blood drives during the summer.
