Amy Monfort and Anne Sturtevant won two awards apiece Saturday night when the Black Mask Honorary Dramatic Society presented its year-end honors.
The Davis-Barnett Awards recognize Southeast's drama students for achievement during the previous year's productions. This year's award ceremony was held at the Drury Lodge.
The award for Best Actress in a Leading Role went to Monfort of Kirkwood. She played the prototypical actress Julie Cavendish in "The Royal Family."
Monfort, who graduated in December after a collegiate career in which she also portrayed Lucy in "Three Penny Opera," Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth," and Maire in "Never in My Lifetime," also was presented with the university's Career Acting Award.
Sturtevant, a senior from Dardanelle, Ark., won the award for Outstanding Service for an Entire Season. She served as the lighting director on both "Oleanna" and "Rumpelstiltskin."
Sturtevant also won the Critic's Award, familiarly known as the Judy after former Southeast Missourian critic Judy Crow. The Judy is awarded for a career of outstanding service.
Those who worked on the recent children's theater production of "Rumpelstiltskin" were cited for a number of awards: Sophomore Terry Vallelunga of Benton, Ky., as Rumpelstiltskin, for Best Actor in a Leading Role; sophomore Don Marler of Farmington, as Hermann, for Best Actor in a Supporting Role; and Junior Sharon Anderson of Cape Girardeau for Costume Design.
Junior Laura Leyes of Concord, Ohio, was recognized as the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Dorine in "Tartuffe."
The Unsung Heroine Award went to junior April Scott of Festus and freshman Matt Buttrey of Scott City, both of whom worked backstage on a number of productions.
