About 4,000 people were without power Sunday in Jackson because of damage to a transmission breaker.

Don Schuette, director of electric utilities for the city of Jackson, said calls about the outage started coming in about 2:30 p.m. The problem was caused by a bird that caused extensive damage to a transmission line breaker.

Schuette said the breaker has been temporarily fixed, but it will take more work to get it fully operational.

He estimated about 4,000 customers were without power for the first hour, then the number tapered down to about 1,000. Power was returned to everyone about 9 p.m.

The outage primarily affected those living on the east side of town.
