Bill W. Stacy, former president of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, has been selected as one of San Diego Calif.'s 55 Most Powerful People.

Stacy's honor was announced recently in the Best of San Diego annual issue of First Thursday, which is published by Blue Book of La Jolla for the coastal communities of San Diego and San Diego North County.

In making the selection, Richard Levin, president of Blue Book Publishers, said to Stacy, "This is testament of the respect and admiration which San Diegans have for you."

Stacy moved to San Marcos, Calif., to become founding president of California State University-San Marcos in 1989.

CSU-San Marcos is the first state university to be built in California in more than 25 years, and is the only state university being constructed from the ground up in the western hemisphere.

In 1990, Stacy was awarded San Diego Magazine's "90 People to Watch in the '90s," and in 1991 the San Diego Press Club honored him as the 1991 "Headliner of the Year in Education."

Stacy serves on the board of directors for Casa de Ampergo a center for abused children and is also on the board of directors of Escondido's new $74 million Center for the Arts.
