BENTON, Mo. -- Scott County Commissioners have spotted "big, big potholes" in country roads already but agreed Tuesday they will have to wait until spring to see how bad the damage is.

"This snow and ice is really taking a toll on our highway department budget," added Commissioner Jamie Burger, noting the added expense of keeping country roads cleared.

Sales tax receipts for the first two months are down only slightly, Burger reported, with $190,955.38 collected so far as compared with $191,259.03 as of this time last year.

Burger agreed to attend a meeting scheduled for Wednesday at the Port Authority. The commissioners explained a company is preparing to open operations at the Port Authority, creating approximately 30 jobs.

Commissioners and Don Jones, county maintenance supervisor, discussed contacting the Green Thumb organization for some extra help around the courthouse.
