BENTON, Mo. -- A Benton man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly displayed a handgun to a man who confronted him about his erratic driving.
Michael D. Allen, 28, is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and careless and imprudent driving, according to a Scott County Sheriff's Department news release.
Another driver reported Allen for driving recklessly on Interstate 55 around noon Wednesday, the release said. Allen was allegedly weaving in and out of traffic and traveling at excessive speed. The witness followed Allen to the Scott County Jail parking lot and asked Allen why he was driving so recklessly. When he did, Allen allegedly left his vehicle and confronted the other driver brandishing a handgun. Allen was reportedly going to the jail to post bond for an inmate.
Allen was arrested and two handguns were taken from his vehicle, the news release said. Allen did have a concealed carry permit.
