Friends and family will gather for a balloon release April 13 at St. Denis Parish Center in Benton, Mo., to observe the anniversary of the disappearance of Cheryl Anne Scherer.

Scherer, 19, was abducted nearly 35 years ago from the Rhodes gas station where she worked on Main Street in Scott City.

The abduction appeared to have happened during a robbery of the station. Investigators discovered her purse had been left behind the counter, and about $480 was missing from a bank bag near the register.

The family of Scherer invites everyone to attend the event being held in Scherer's honor.

The remembrance and balloon release will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and the balloons will be released at 5:30 p.m.
