Twenty-nine employees of Dana Corp., Spicer Axle Division, Cape Girardeau, recently completed a 40-hour, in-house training course on "Excellence in Manufacturing."
Larry Tidd, training coordinator for Dana here, was instructor for the course, which teaches employees how to achieve accelerated continuous improvement in their jobs through the eight E.I.M. objectives.
These objectives are met by employees participating in a formal suggestion system that encourages teamwork and the elimination of wastes.
Participants in the week-long seminar were:
Chris Mirgeaux, Stacy Riley, Toby Bass, Earl Obermann, Mark Slinkard, Terry Kuehn, Dean Berkbigler and Dale Snyder.
Also participating were Brad Sutterer, Alan Williams, David Bangert, Daniel Blumenberg, Jeff Slinkard, Eric Schoenberg, Allen Hammonds, Scott Stephens, Richard Thompson, Barry Blue, Mark Rutherford and Virginia Fuller.
In addition, Donnie Smith, Rodger Harp, Steven Jaster, Brian Long, Joe Prokopf, Rob Jones, Dan Schlueter, Tony Baldwin and Larry Koehler participated.

William R. Schott and Melvin J. Van de Ven, partners in the firm of Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants, recently attended the 83rd meeting of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Van de Ven, chairman of the annual meeting committee of the state organization, participated in establishing the program that covered investment management services, issues regarding limited liability companies, tax development and corporation tax updates and accounting and auditing procedures.
The Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants has a membership of almost 7,000 CPAs.
Schott and Van de Ven, a full service accounting firm, has been serving the area since 1959.

Julie Umfleet of Cape Girardeau has been named "Employee of the Year" by the Cottonwood Treatment Center, located on Southeast Missouri State University campus.
Umfleet joined Cottonwood as a psychiatric aide in February 1989 and was promoted to clinical casework assistant in April 1991. She is the cottage supervisor for eight youths, ages 6-12.
Cottonwood is a Department of Mental Health facility that provides residential psychiatric services to children and youth, ages 6-17, who have emotional and behavioral problems.
Umfleet received her award from Jerry Wilmath, director of the facility.

Dr. Steven Roth of Scott City has been accepted as a member of the Greater St. Louis Craniomandibular Society, a group of dentists, orthodontists, oral surgeons, physicians, chiropractors, otolaryngologists and physical therapists dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of pain in the face and jaw.
Roth attended a seminar sponsored by the society Friday. Dr. Jeffrey Okeson, director of Orofacil Pain Center of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and author of more than 55 articles on Temporomandibular Disorders, was guest speaker.
