ST. LOUIS Ted C. Wetterau, chairman and chief executive officer of Wetterau Inc., recently received the first J. Frank Grimes Founder's Award.
The award is presented by Chicago-based IGA, Inc., for extraordinary achievement.
Wetterau, which was founded almost 125 years ago, in 1869, and includes a warehouse distribution facility at Scott City, provides products and supplies to IGA and other supermarkets.
Wetterau received his award from Thomas S. Haggai, IGA chairman and CEO, at the IGA's annual executives conference held in Aventura, Fla.
Wetterau is one of four recipients of the award. Others include Jeffrey J. David, senior vice president and chief administrative officer, IGA, Inc.; Ira C. Herbert, executive vice president, The Coca-Cola Co., Atlanta; and E. Dean Werries, chairman and chief executive officer of Fleming Companies, Inc., Oklahoma City.
The award, the highest presented within the multi-national IGA system, was established in 1991 as part of IGA's 65th anniversary year celebration, was presented for the first time during the 1992 convention.
IGA, with more than 3,750 supermarkets throughout the world, has aggregate sales of more than $16.2 billion annually.

Craig Felzien of Cape Girardeau, manager of community relations for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in a five-county area, has been named Small Business Advocate of the Year.
The award, presented by the U.S. Small Business Administrations, recognizes commitment and contributions toward understanding of the importance of small business to the community.
"Felzien shows a commitment to small business by giving not only funds, but his personal time, to support any activity that promotes economic development. He has convinced his supervisors that an outlay of funds for local organizations is in the best interest of all concerned," said a spokesman of the Small Business Administration.
Felzien serves on numerous boards scattered over 23 communities in the five counties he serves.
He has been instrumental in helping set up several economic development groups in Southeast Missouri.

Paul Riemann, Bill Simmons and Bob Palmer recently attended a Delco pressure-washing equipment show at Springdale, Ark.
The show, hosted by Clarke Industries, Inc., which manufactures floor care products, was held at the firm's 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, which was completed at Springdale in 1988.
Jim Wilson Co. of Cape Girardeau received an award at the meeting for outstanding sales of Delco pressuring-washing equipment during the past year.

Andrew Leonard, a certified hypnotherapist and director of the center for Self Improvement, 1936 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, recently attended a two-week transformational hypnotherapy certification training program with the Alchemical Hypnotherapy Institute of Santa Rosa, Calif.
Leonard has a master's degree in psychological counseling from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master Practitioner Certification in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
The Center for Self Improvement, Inc. utilizes hypnotherapy to help individuals reduce stress, increase self esteem, reduce weight or stop smoking.

Jo Nelle Lingo recently attended the 9th annual Missouri Association of Senior Center Administrators (MASCA) conference held at St. Louis.
"Show Me the Show Me State" was the theme of the conference.
Frankie Freeman, national chairperson of the National Council on Aging, was luncheon speaker during the first day of the conference, and Rich Pisani, president of the 2004 Committee that is attempting to lure the World's Fair and Olympics to Missouri in 2004, was keynote speaker during the conference.
Lingo, administrator of the Cape Girardeau Senior Center, attended several workshops and programs during the three-day conference.
