Seven Cape Girardeau residents were among the more than 470 Aid Association of Lutherans (AAL) volunteers who attended the recent annual convention of the Missouri Federation of AAL branches.

Frederick Aukeman, Allen and Joyce Clark, Erwin and Laurine Dost, and Bill and Shirley Beggs attended the session, held at Jefferson City.

Several workshops were held at the convention, with subjects ranging from "Habitat for Humanity" to "Financial Hints for AAL Families."

AAL volunteers in Missouri conducted 688 projects last year designed to accomplish humanitarian, service, social and educational goals. The group raised $737,517, presented several college scholarships, and conducted 25 AAL-sponsored drug and alcohol seminars.

AAL, based in Appleton, Wis., offers insurance and financial services to Lutherans.

Mark Owens, bench technician at Square One Electronics Inc., 1733 N. Kingshighway, recently attended a Mitel Revision 10 programming class in Dallas.

Mitel Revision 10 is the newest software released for Positive Account Verification (PAV) call controllers, which provides a businesses with a method of routing their long-distance calls.

The course qualifies Owens to program PAV call controllers using any level of software through Revision 10.

Richard and Jane Daume, owners of Kwik-Kopy Printing, 354 S. Silver Springs Road, recently attended the National Association of Quick Printers (NAQP) Executive Conference at Honolulu, Hawaii.

The conference focused on adapting to changing markets and economic conditions. The theme was "The Art of Survival: Prospering in Difficult Times."

Jim Burke, Jack Kramer and Bob Roloff, all of AAA Insurance sales agency in Cape Girardeau, have received the AAA-Auto Club of Missouri Golden Seal Agent Awards.

The three were recognized for sales performances. Kramer has been with the company more than 20 years. Roloff joined the firm in 1969 and Burke joined the company in 1986.

The AAA-Auto Club provides motoring, travel and insurance services to its members.

Dr. Kyle Brost of Cape Girardeau recently attended the Heart of America Contact Lens and Primary Care Congress at Kansas City.

Attending the session were many contact lens specialists from the U.S. and other countries as well as educators in the field of primary disease eye care.

Brost, who maintains his office at 37 Doctors' Park, has been an active member of the Heart of America Contact Lens Society. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.

PERRYVILLE Dr. Job Pontillas recently attended an advance course on "Current Perspectives in GYN Endoscopy: Advance Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy for the 1990s" at St. Louis.

The course provided surgeons and support personnel an update on current indications, instrumentations and techniques of advanced laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

Pontillas has been performing laparoscopic procedures for the past year at both Perry County Memorial Hospital and Ste. Genevieve Memorial Hospital.

Perry County Memorial Hospital will be offering other laparoscopic surgeries in the near future.

Deborah S. Blumenberg, president of the Girardot Chapter of Professional Secretaries International, was guest speaker for the Phi Beta Lambda Chapter of the Perryville Area Vocational Technical School recently.

Blumenberg told the group that PSI is important not just to secretaries but to the entire business community.

"A professional association is more than a group of people with a common interest," she said. "It is a group of individuals that sets standards for the profession, provides continuing education and professional growth."

The program was part of Professional Image Week, an annual event at the Perryville school.

Dr. Charles H. Cozean of Cape Girardeau recently served as a guest faculty member at the 3M Stowe Ophthalmic Symposium in Stowe, Va.

Cozean's topics included "Bifocal Intraocular Lens Implantation," "Excimer Laser" and "Stitch Cataract Surgery."

More than 50 ophthalmologists attended the meeting.

Paul W. Horton has been named "Salesman of the Year" at Cape Toyota-Suzuki, 835 S. Kingshighway.

Horton has been a sales associate at the auto dealership since 1989. He attended Southeast Missouri State University.

The dealership offers Toyota cars, trucks and vans and Suzuki cars and four-wheel drive vehicles as well as a line of used vehicles.
