Joan Jones has retired from First Exchange Bank of Cape Girardeau.
Bill Stanfield, president and chief executive officer of the bank, announced Jones' retirement and the promotion of two bank employees to new positions.
Shirley Cates has been named vice president-cashier and Geralyn Counts has been promoted to assistant vice president.
Jones, who has been in the banking field since the mid-1950s, joined First Exchange in 1983. She retires as vice president-cashier. Jones' husband, Bill, joined the ranks of retirees two years ago.
She started at First National Bank of Cape Girardeau and later worked at the former Farmers and Merchants Bank.
Cates has been associated with Exchange banks for 16 years, and has held several positions including assistant vice president. She is a graduate of Jackson High School and has several college- level accounting and American Institute of Banking courses to her credit.
Cates and her husband, Jerry, reside in Cape Girardeau.
Counts has been associated with the bank since 1987, and has held several positions within the company, including that of loan teller supervisor.
Counts and her three daughters, Jennifer, Julie Anne and Jamee, reside in Gordonville. They are members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

SIKESTON Jim Meade recently received the 1991 Team Player Award from Malone and Hyde Inc. of Sikeston.
Meade has been employed with Malone and Hyde for 11 years and has served as merchandising director of the Sikeston Division for six years.
The award is based on outstanding contributions in the development of merchandising programs that help retail customers.
Malone and Hyde is a subsidiary of the Fleming Companies, a food wholesaler.
Meade received his award from Jerry Vander Brook, division president.

The award, presented by the American and Missouri medical associations, goes to physicians who voluntarily complete 150 credit hours of continuing medical education courses over a three-year period.
The award recognizes physicians who are keeping up to date in their medical specialties and adding to their knowledge.

ST. LOUIS William E. Cornelius, chairman and chief executive officer of Union Electric Co., has been named 1991 St. Louis Man of the Year.
The honor is co-sponsored by St. Louis Man of the Year Committee and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Cornelius, the 38th St. Louisan to receive the city's highest recognition, will accept his award in the auditorium of the St. Louis Art Museum Tuesday.
During his eight-year tenure as UE's chief executive officer, Cornelius is credited with positioning UE to compete effectively in a rapidly changing industry. He has presided over the construction and operation of one of the nation's top-ranked nuclear power plants and over creation of extensive quality improvement and customer service programs. He joined UE in 1962.
Cornelius has served as president of Civic Progress, which provides civic leadership to foster community betterment. He is a trustee of Washington University and chairman of St. Louis Children's Hospital, and he will chair the 1992 United Way of Greater St. Louis
UE, based in St. Louis, provides energy to more than a million customers in a 24,000-square-mile service area in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa.

Several Auto Tire and Parts employees have been honored for years of service.
John Tlapek, president of the firm, presented awards to Bill Boyd, John Fath and Bart Carr for 20 years' service. Other employees recognized included Richard Walther, 15 years; Rick Blankenship, Kenny Boyd, Elbert Couch, Dave Sneed, Ralph Walther and Tim Werner, five years each.
Auto Tire and Parts, which opened for business in 1909, now operates 14 stores in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. It offers automotive and tractor parts, shop equipment and professional machine-shop services.
The company is owned by Tlapek, Rob Janet and Mike Himmelberg.

Thomas Meyer of Cape Girardeau, Missouri Association of Realtors State Treasurer, installed new Ozark officers during a meeting held at West Plains.
Roehl is owner-broker of Backwoods Realty in Eunice.
