JACKSON -- Dr. Charles A. Cox, a Jackson veterinarian, recently attended a seminar on dog and cat skin diseases.
Dr. John M. McDonald, a veterinary dermatologist from Auburn University, Alabama College of Veterinary Medicine, discussed diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of skin problems of cats and dogs.
The six-hour session was held at St. Louis and was sponsored by the Greater St. Louis Veterinary Medical Association.

Scott Van de Ven and Vernon C. Barringer Jr. recently were notified by CPA examination services that they had successfully passed the Certified Public Accountants exam.
Both are employed by Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants of Cape Girardeau.
Van de Ven is a graduate of Cape Central High School. He attended Southeast Missouri State University and received a bachelor of science in accountancy from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1991.
Van de Ven joined the staff of Schott & Van de Ven in October 1991 as a staff accountant. He resides in Cape Girardeau.
Barringer, of Cape Girardeau, is a senior accountant for the firm. He has been employed by the firm for 17 years.
Barringer attended Southeast Missouri State University, and received a bachelor of science in business administrator, majoring in accounting in 1971.

Dr. Kyle E. Brost of Cape Girardeau attended the Heart of America Contact Lens and Primary Care Congress in Kansas City.
Optometrists from across the Midwest attended the conference, the largest of its kind in the world. The educational program covered new and advanced techniques for all types of contact lenses available, plus latest information on treatment of external eye and eyelid problems.
A member of the Heart of America Contact Lens Society for the past 11 years, Brost is an alumnus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.
The congress brings together contact lens specialists from the U.S. and other countries and educators in the field of primary disease eye care.
Brost's office is at 37 Doctors' Park.

TAMMS, Ill. Reid Abercrombie, assistant financial officer at Tamms State Bank, recently graduated from the Illinois Bankers Association's Basic Commercial Lending School at Bloomington.
The school is designed to provide technical training and education for bank employees in commercial lending.
