Saturday is the deadline for nominating someone for the 2006 Spirit of America Award. The award presented by the Southeast Missourian newspaper honors a community member who personifies the character and ideals of America.

Any organization -- civic clubs, church groups, veterans organizations, Scout troops, sports leagues, school groups, auxiliaries and others -- can nominate someone for the award. The organization that nominates the winner will receive $1,000 to be used for its good works. The winner of the award will be recognized at the July 4 Libertyfest celebration.
