Award for historic preservation presented to Southeast professor

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently awarded Frank Nickell with the NSDAR Historic Preservation Medal for his record in historic preservation.

Nickell is a professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University, where he serves as director of the Center for Regional History.

Terry Price Arnold, NSDAR national vice chairman of historic preservation, wrote a letter to the John Guild Chapter, saying "The efforts and initiatives of Dr. Nickell in his distinguished career as a history professor and historian speak of his indelible contributions in historic preservation to your community and state."

Nickell assisted Dr. Arthur Mattingly in creating a historic preservation program at Southeast more than 25 years ago.

As director for the Center for Regional History, he has been involved with the Red House Interpretive Center and Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Celebration, the Stars and Stripes Museum in Bloomfield, Mo., and other public history projects and presentations.
