A Cape Girardeau man was killed Friday morning in a one-car crash on U.S. 61, two miles north of Jackson.

Alan R. Stroup, 26, was southbound in his 1996 Pontiac at about 3:50 a.m., when the car ran off the roadway and struck a concrete embankment.

Stroup was ejected from the car before the it came to rest on top of him, said the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

He was flown by helicopter to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau and later pronounced dead.

Trooper Todd Turlington investigated the incident, assisted by Cpl. Perry Hazelwood and troopers Aaron Harrison and Jeff Weadon.
