Authorities release name of Tuesday fatal crash victim

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released the name of the person who died in a car crash Tuesday on Route EE near Delta.

The highway patrol said that Kyle S. Phelps, 16, of Chaffee, Mo., was driving a 1972 Chevrolet eastbound on the roadway at 4:20 p.m. when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle then ran off the roadway and struck an embankment.

Cape Girardeau County coroner John Clifton pronounced Phelps dead at the scene at 4:43 p.m.

Phelps was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, the highway patrol said.
